The WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center collaborates with member states Intellectual Property Offices (IP Offices) and Courts to raise awareness of the advantages of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods to prevent and resolve intellectual property and technology disputes.
To enhance the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in intellectual property (IP) and technology disputes, the WIPO AMC collaborates with some 90 IP and Copyright Offices and Courts.
During the 2024 WIPO General Assemblies, WIPO established new partnerships with:
- the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO),
- the Belize Intellectual Property Office (BELIPO),
- the Intellectual Property Office of Ireland (IPOI)
- the Autonomous Service of Intellectual Property of Venezuela (SAPI), and
- the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) specifically addressing ADR related to standard essential patents (SEPs). This marks the second SEP-focused collaboration between the WIPO AMC and a Member State, following the 2022 collaboration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The WIPO AMC has facilitated over 80 mediations globally, addressing fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing negotiations.
